MapleGun ("MapleGun," "we," "us," or "our") operates maplegun.ca (the "Site"). We are a Canadian firearms and ammunition price aggregator — a search engine, not a retailer. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
1. Information We Collect
Search queries
When you search on MapleGun, your query is sent to our search infrastructure to return results. We do not store your search history or associate queries with your identity.
Account registration
You may create a MapleGun account using an email address and password, or by signing in with Google. When you register we collect:
- Email address — used to identify your account and send transactional emails (e.g. email confirmation, password reset).
- Password — stored as a cryptographic hash by our authentication provider (Supabase). We never have access to your plain-text password.
- Username and province (optional) — provided by you on the account settings page.
- Newsletter preference — new accounts are subscribed to our newsletter by default. You can opt out at any time from your account settings.
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google. We do not access your Google contacts, calendar, or any other Google data.
Contact form
If you submit the contact form, we collect your name, company (optional), email address, subject, and message. This data is processed by Formspree (formspree.io), a US-based third-party form service, and forwarded to our team email. We use it only to respond to your inquiry and retain it for up to 12 months, after which it is deleted. We do not add you to any mailing list.
Cookies and analytics
MapleGun uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage (pages visited, session duration, geographic region). Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to distinguish visits. This data is collected anonymously and is not linked to your name or contact details.
If you create an account, we use session cookies (set by Supabase Auth) to keep you signed in. These cookies are HTTP-only and contain only your session token — no personal data.
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by disabling cookies in your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not affect your ability to search on MapleGun, but you will not be able to stay signed in to your account.
Log data
Our hosting provider may collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages visited, timestamps). This data is used for security and operational purposes and is not linked to any personal profile.
2. Third-Party Services and Cross-Border Transfers
MapleGun integrates with the following third-party services. Some are based outside Canada; by using the Site you consent to your information being processed in those jurisdictions. Each service has its own privacy policy:
- Supabase (USA) — provides authentication and database services. Your email address, hashed password, and profile data are stored in Supabase. If you sign in with Google, Supabase receives your name and email from Google to create your account. Governed by Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- Google Sign-In (Google LLC, USA) — if you choose to sign in with Google, your authentication is handled via Google OAuth 2.0. We receive only your name and email address. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC, USA) — collects anonymized usage data via cookies. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Formspree (USA) — processes contact form submissions. By submitting the contact form you agree to Formspree's Privacy Policy.
- Patreon — linked for voluntary supporter donations. Clicking a Patreon link takes you to Patreon's site; MapleGun does not receive or process any Patreon payment data.
- Retailers — when you click "Buy" you leave MapleGun and visit the retailer's website. The retailer's own privacy policy governs any data you provide during checkout.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the limited data we collect to:
- Return search results relevant to your query.
- Create and manage your account, including authentication and profile settings.
- Send transactional emails (e.g. email confirmation, password reset).
- Send our newsletter if you are subscribed (you can opt out at any time).
- Respond to contact form inquiries.
- Understand aggregate site usage through anonymized analytics.
- Maintain the security and performance of the Site.
4. Your Rights Under PIPEDA
You have the right to request access to any personal information we hold about you, to request corrections, to withdraw consent to its use, and to request deletion of your account and associated data (subject to legal or contractual restrictions). To exercise these rights, contact us via the contact form. We will respond within 30 days.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
